Several bills that would gut Michigan's statewide wetland protections are currently making their way through the Michigan Legislature. Our team at Citizens for Superior has been closely monitoring the status of these bills, and we need your help to stop them.
5 bills, recently introduced simultaneously in the Michigan House of Representatives, are part of a coordinated effort to overhaul how wetlands are protected by the State of Michigan.
Together, these 5 bills threaten dangerous changes to Michigan's wetland laws. They ignore wetland and hydrology science, would reduce oversight of our state's natural resources, make it easier to destroy wetland ecosystems, and increase costs for EGLE to carry out permitting processes.
Unfortunately, HB 5501 and HB 5536 have already been passed by the House of Representatives. But there is still time to stop all 5 of these bills!
Complete the steps below to take action!
STEP 1
The Senate Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee is the next stop for these bills (assuming the rest are also passed by the House, which they likely will be). Please contact members of the committee and tell them to oppose HBs 5082, 5501, 5502, 5536, and 5556:
