U.P. Residents -- join Citizens for Superior and Protect the Porkies as we venture down to the state capitol to prevent a copper sulfide mine from polluting our shoreline and communities! This is a critical time for us to go down to Lansing, as the state legislature is deciding whether or not to include funding for Copperwood in the budget, and will be making decisions any time now.

Tourism in the UP: The good, the bad, and the ugly
The Upper Peninsula, especially near Lake Superior's shoreline, is a destination for outdoor tourism in the Midwest. With approx. 1.5 million visitors each year in Marquette County, what impacts does tourism have on our environment and communities? Join us for another impactful community lecture, this time from Dr. Michael Broadway, a human geographer who formerly taught in NMU's Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences. There will be a suggested $5-10 donation at the door to support watershed protection in the UP.

Wetlands Uncovered: Fundamentals of Wetland Science
NMU's Dr. Angela Lafuente will lead this important community lecture and provide an overview of wetland biology, hydrology and soils, different types of wetlands, and share insights on work she did with cedar swamps in Houghton County. These unique and critical ecosystems are often misunderstood, and, because of that, they continue to face threats from destruction and development in the U.P.

Supreme Decisions, Vanishing Wetlands: Understanding Recent Policy Impacts to our Watersheds
