Mineral prospecting in the Central and Western Upper Peninsula is on the rise due to increasing demand for minerals like copper and nickel in the tech, automotive, energy, and military industries. Information from the public about such activities is key to ensure that environmental regulations are not violated!
To keep track of new drilling and other exploratory activity, our partners at the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve (YDWP) have started a citizen-informed monitoring program. If you believe mineral prospecting is happening in an area you frequent, even if it is outside the
Yellow Dog Watershed, complete the form on the YDWP website. YDWP representatives will follow-up with you for more details and will conduct a site investigation.
Please share this message to help broaden the network of citizen watchdogs engaged in addressing this ongoing threat to the land and water we all love. You can also save the link below for future use!
