Our Shore: What Will Be Affected from Marquette to the Proposed Rocket Launch Site

The proposed Marquette County spaceport would launch rockets directly from Marquette's popular recreational corridor, just a mere 15 minutes north of the city where locals and tourists travel from all over the world to experience:

Sugarloaf Mountain, Wetmore Landing, Hogback Mountain, Donnelly Preserve, Eagle's Nest Coastal Preserve, Echo Lake Preserve, Harlow Lake Preserve, Hiawatha Water Trail, Little Garlic River, Little Presque Isle Beach, Noquemanon Trails, North Country Trails, Yellow Dog River, Saux Head Trails.

The site is also 15 minutes south of Perkins Camping Grounds, Lake Independence, and Big Bay, MI.

The mission of Citizens for a Safe and Clean Lake Superior (CSCLS) is to:

- protect and improve the coastal habitat, shoreline, and fresh water of Lake Superior and its watershed in Marquette County

- oppose individual, corporate or governmental action which may jeopardize that resource

- encourage community action to preserve the quality of life provided by this Lake Superior coastline environment for generations to come

CSCLS will fight in every forum to protect Lake Superior and defeat the proposed vertical rocket launch at Granot Loma in Marquette County. A heavy industrial rocket launch zone within pristine wilderness and coastline would damage the ecosystem, endanger public safety, and adversely impact our regional recreational-based economy.

Rockets launched at Granot Loma would:

- require road closures on the 550

- evacuate multiple nearby homes

- cause explosive sound and shockwaves

- destroy wetlands and threaten species habitat

With multiple other existing launch sites available around the world, it is unnecessary to build a destructive industrial rocket launch operation on Lake Superior, which contains 10% of planet Earth's surface fresh water.
