Citizens for a Safe & Clean Lake Superior is assisting Powell Township residents in a petition to amend Powell's zoning ordinances. The amendment would ban the construction and operation of spaceports in Powell Township in favor of protecting public, private, and environmental interests in the township.
CSCLS has been collecting petition signatures from Powell Township residents and other concerned parties at our events. We will continue to collect signatures preceding a public hearing on the matter, which will likely be scheduled for early Fall 2023. Check back for more updates!
Who can sign this petition?
We are collecting signatures from Powell Township residents and others who would be directly affected by the spaceport facility. For example, Marquette Township residents who live in the evacuation zone can add their signature.
I signed your previous petitions. Can I still sign?
Yes! You can sign the zoning amendment petition as well as the general petition in opposition to the spaceport.
Who will make the decision to ban rocket launch sites?
This petition will be presented to the Powell Township Planning Commision once a substantial number of signatures is reached, and a public hearing will be held. The Planning Commission will then vote to recommend the Powell Township Board to adopt the amendment.
